Solar Energy in West and Center Africa

Few years ago, there was not much interest in solar technology in Africa. Solar panels were a rare sight in Africa, largely limited to the roofs of a few affluent households. This is changing rapidly, driven by three factors: the worldwide drive towards renewable energy, a highly strained local electricity supply, and a steady drop in solar electricity systems prices.

African’s climate is ideal for solar. Most areas in the country average more than 2500 hours of sunshine per year, among the highest in the world, thanks to its Equatorial position. The more light the panels receive, the more electricity they generate and they work on cloudy days too.

​

As electricity costs keep rising, solar is becoming an even more viable and cost-effective option for businesses in Africa. While there is an initial outlay cost, it can be recouped after five to eight years on average. That’s an attractive internal rate of return (IRR) especially considering solar electricity is then free after the initial payback period. So solar PV actually offers businesses an attractive savings model.

 

For more than 15 years, we develop systems of autonomous electrification solar or hybrid cities and remote villages across the world.

It is sometimes difficult to deliver electricity in sectors or areas difficult to access either by the vegetation, rivers, reliefs, conflicts, their costs or simply by the distance.

It was found that energy independence allows the development of remote areas.

By the development of a comfortable life for its inhabitants, for securing lighted areas, as well as by the diversity of equipment that can be used by power supply (Irrigation, communication,...).

 

For example, thanks to our power supply systems isolated, it is possible to set up network of pumping of water, treatment of water and the routing to a central point of a village, or a direct routing in homes in the cities.

 

They also set up a system of irrigation for the surrounding agricultural areas.
